Today, together we share the loss of a truly great Canadian, Justice Murray Sinclair. All of Canada can thank him forever for his work in bringing us to Truth and Reconciliation. With his work completed, he passed us the torch. Now more than ever, it is our turn to walk strong and steadfastly in his footsteps.
In 2016, we at DAREarts awarded Murray Sinclair with the 2016 Cultural Award at the DAREarts Leadership Awards Gala. It was an honour and privilege to commemorate his work on Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission to improve the plight of our Indigenous peoples.
Attached are some photos from that event, by photographer Tom Sandler, including one poignantly with our late Indigenous teaching artist, Cathy Elliott, who presented Murray with welcoming tobacco. In his conversations and speech, his honesty, kindness and resolve for inclusion of ALL were infectious. As you look at these photos, enjoy sensing his quiet strength, goodwill and faith in us all to carry on.
Murray, we will carry on.
Love,
Marilyn
